Description: P. DerbyRestored "Correct Posture Chair"Circa: 1925 When we acquired this chair, it was chippy black in color. The paint was painstakingly removed, then the woodwas sanded and stained. To finish it off, the chair was treated with linseed oil as opposed to varnishing it. Thiseliminates the harsh shine and gives it a warm look. The metal pieces were rust free, but were dull, so theyreceived new black paint. The paint even covered some of the casters. This was removed, leaving themlooking good overall. The length of time spent restoring the chair provided ample time to inspect it indetail in a search for any damage or excessive wear. This is what was found top to bottom. Thebackrest is solid and in very good condition. The front is nearly spotless, and the back is fine, save for some small dings to the wood near the top. The arms are also secure with nomovement present, and like the rest of the piece, are very good. The only spot foundto point out is a finish nail that was added on the front of the left arm sometimealong the way, that was revealed when the paint was removed. The seat is excellentwith no damage and very little wear. The underside has no issues and looks good. The metal mechanical parts are in fine condition and function as they should. The backresttension and seat raising and lowering functions are as they should be. The legs all look niceand are very solid. There is a small "dent" on the front of one, and two have some tiny insectholes on the underside. These have not weakened the wood, as it is rock hard. The wheels lookgood, with only some light wear to be found. One does not spin freely. It moves, but not like theothers that are fine, and one of the wheels comes off the chair if it is lifted off the floor. This couldbe easily rectified with the insertion of a small wood sliver. The date of 1925 was used, as we foundan advertisement for the chair from that date. Overall, this is a fine looking piece is excellent conditionfor the age.
