Description: Antique Bricks -Alabama - Firebrick Hand Made 1800s. These red clay bricks were used to construct fireplaces and chimneys in a turn of the century dogtrot style home in rural northeast Alabama. Constructed like many homes in southern Appalachia in this time period, settlers used local materials to fashion their homes. These bricks reflect the colors of the local iron-rich soils and still bear creek sand-mortar made from the stream less than 300 feet from the home-site. This home stood on its original stone foundation bearing its original hand hewn beams and circular sawn board siding until 2020. These bricks are not without blemish, some not square or flat as they were likely made painstakingly by hand and fired on site. They make wonderful decoration, book-ends, or accents to any southern or farm house style home or decor.
