Description: This Shiwan ceramic earthenware pillow has an emerald green over blue glaze. Pillows in this shape were not necessarily made just for opium users but they were typically used in opium dens. The oval hole allowed them to store their valuables once they became intoxicated - the pillow would be turned with the hole up against the wall. Shiwan ware ceramics were made in workshops in the Shiwanzhen district near Guangdong, China. SIZE: It is 6.75" tall x 4.75" wide and 3 & 3/8" deep. CONDITION: There is crazing. There are no cracks or chips and only a few glaze skips or flakes - See photos.
