Description: Antique 19th Hand-painted Chinese Box with painted silk interior. Lid depicts two scholars with attendant hand-painted in gold. Long rectangle shape with a hinged lid. Inner lid has a hand-painted bird & floral scene, overlaid in clear plastic. The plastic is inconsistent with the age of the piece, so I think it was a later custom addition to protect the fragile textile (I believe silk based on similar examples of fan boxes). Metal claw hook fastener is functional, but a bit sticky. General age and wear to the surface, the original finish is worn, with scratches and chips along the edges of the lacquerware from age and use. Illegible label on the bottom exterior. Dimensions: exterior: - 13.75” wide x 3” long x 2.25” high; interior:- 12-3/8” x 2” x 1-5/8” bottom depth / 0.25” top depth.Condition: Very good giftable condition. Most notable issues are black paint / lacquer losses on edges and corners, in particular around base rim. No key. Clasp has tendency to be sticky. Hinges good. No cracks, splits, or evidence of wood damage. Bottom paper lifting as shown in photo #6. Unpacked weight: 13.2 Oz.Always happy to pass through discounts on combined shipping.
