Description: Primitive German Rye Straw Basket. Most likely made in the late 1800s to early 1900s. The basket is made of coiled rye straw - the coils are held together with thin wood strips that hold each layer to the next in a tight weave. These kinds of baskets were used for a variety of household purposes. Dimensions are 7 1/4" diameter, 3" deep. Condition is appropriate to it's vintage - note top coil's end section without wood strips. Please look at photos carefully, as they are part of the description.
