Description: Queen Anne's Lace wildflowers of Nova Scotia vintage framed artwork picture by Kathryn Reith Blake. The back of the frame has this written on it: "We are pleased to present these truly beautiful hand-picked wildflower blossoms. Each bouquet has been woven into pure cotton rag handmade paper. Each floral array is unique and each is signed by the artist.Queen Anne's lace, a member of the Parsley Family, has lacy, flat topped clusters of tiny cream-white flowers with one dark floret at the center of the umbel. Queen Anne's lace is found throughout North America in dry fields and waste lands and blooms from May to October. Growing to a height of three feet, this attractive biennial is considered a bothersome weed. Queen Anne's lace is an ancestor of the carrot and its long first year taproot and may be cooked and eaten. Kathryn Reith Blake is an internationally recognized creative paper artist working out of her studio at Ballfield Farm. Techniques she evolved in papermaking are now used by other papermakers all over the world. A choral, printed on silk papers created by Ms. Blake, was presented to the Pope on his visit to North America. Recently Kathryn created the antiqued papers used in the Disney Film 'A Scarlet Letter'. Ms. Blake teaches papermaking and has been the subject of national television programs." This stunning picture has stood the test of time over the past 21 years. It is vibrant and whimsical with the artist signature and dated 2003.The frame is ornate and compliments the picture well. This measures 6.5" x 8.5" frame to frame. There is a rip in the back in the paper but this does not affect the front of the picture.
