Description: The blueberry snail, also known as Viviparidae, is a wonderful addition to any aquarium and highly sought after. With its brown shell, blue body with orange spots, and tropical water temperature, it is sure to catch the eye of any beginner or experienced aquarist. Blueberry snails are omnivore filter-feeders. Although easy to care for, feeding can be a challenge especially if you are new to the hobby and/or unfamiliar with filter-feeders. They should be kept in a well established tank with plenty of biofilm and algae for then to enjoy. You can also provide the occasional algae wafer and blanched vegetable to them for a treat. They are best in a sandy substrate, as they can often be found buried within and enjoy heavily planted tanks. Blueberry snails are live bearers, females give birth to a single snail every 1-2 weeks after fertilization from a male. Male blueberry snails can easily be identified by one of their antannae being thicker than the other. Sometimes also circled and shorter.
