"Carl Fenton " (at first Walter Haenschen, later Reuben Greenberg) was among the most important recording directors of the 1920s. The Carl Fenton Orchestra shaped Brunswick's sound of that era more than any other Brunswick musicial group and remained an important organization in the 1920's. The name "Carl Fenton" was only used on record labels and was a made up name. His group of musicians was among the first to record for Brunswick, cutting sides in October 1919. Haenschen remained with Brunswick until mid 1927. He spent two years with Gennett as musical director (1928-30). From December 1927 to mid-1931, he was musical director of NBC's The Palmolive Hour. He worked with most of America's best musicians from 1920 through the 1940s. Musicians that appeared on some of the Carls Fenton Orchestra recordings could include: Harry Reser (banjo), Red Nichols (trumpet), Miff Mole (trombone), Jimmy Dorsey (clarinet), Fud Livingston (clarinet), Pee Wee Russell (clarinet), Benny Goodman (clarinet), Arthur Schutt (piano), Joe Tarto (tuba) and Vic Berton (drums). The Carl Fenton and His Orchestra, Encore 1 and Encore 2 CD's, represent some of their best recordings from the 1920's. All selections have been digitally restored.
