Earl Mac Pherson TEXAS COWGIRL 18x24 Lithograph Limited Signed Numbered #140/395

Description: Please take the time to read through my entire item description and view all the photographs. I consistently prepare accurate and detailed descriptions and provide clear close up photographs and video when appropriate for all my listings. The aforementioned notwithstanding, note the photos are still the biggest and most important part of this or any description. As the old saying goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words". If you would like additional photos or have specific questions just message me and I will respond ASAP. For your consideration is this RARELY OFFERED authentic LIMITED EDITION (140/395) and ARTIST (pencil) SIGNED unframed vintage 1992 “EARL MAC PHERSON” delightfully tantalizing large PINUP lithograph print depicting a scantily dressed beautiful young woman entitled “TEXAN COWGIRL”. The lithograph comes with a “CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY”. I originally purchased this piece as a gift for a friend who collects pinup art but unfortunately, unbeknownst to me, I discovered afterwards he already had this piece in his collection. To that end, I am offering this magnificently gorgeous and collectible piece of artwork for someone else to enjoy. I researched the famed pinup artist Earl MacPherson and am including a brief biography below for your further review and consideration. “Born Edgar “Earl” MacPherson in is best known for the creation of the "Artist Sketch Pad" style of pinup art and was one of the leading pin up artists during the heyday of the pinup art style. Edgar Earl MacPherson was born on August 3, 1910, in Oklahoma. He is best known for the creation of the "Artist Sketch Pad" style of pinup art and was one of the leading pin up artists during the heyday of the pinup art style. MacPherson moved to Los Angeles after graduating high school and started working painting movie posters for a downtown theater. MacPherson took evening art classes at the Chouinard School of Art. In 1929 he set up shop at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu, painting portraits of wealthy guests. His professional career started in 1930 with a commission to paint President Hoover's grandchildren. Later on in his life, MacPherson went on to paint portraits of President Reagan, Marilyn Monroe and John Wayne and is remembered for being one of the last living Lamour pin-up artists of the era of Petty, Vargas, and Moran. McPherson's early success with the Artist's Sketch Pad was followed by another triumph when his two deck set of Pin Up Girls playing cards for Brown & Bigelow, called, "Win, Lose, or Draw" received a total of 168,000 orders in four months. He began receiving contracts for pin up girl posters. MacPherson painted a very famous pin-up image for the Shaw-Barton Calendar Company. The best-selling image in the company's 1941 line, Going Places was so popular that Lucky Strike cigarettes asked to reproduce it on their 1942 calendar with the caption "Lucky Strike Green Goes to War". Early on Brown & Bigelow was interested in his work and in 1942 the company hired MacPherson who became very famous thanks to his Artist's Sketch Pad in which he painted a central pin-up figure surrounded by some pencil delineations that showed the same girl in different poses. In 1945 he began working again for Shaw-Barton because he had a better wage and other opportunities there. In 1951, MacPherson was stricken with polio, and his assistant, Jerry Thompson, took over the Sketch Book calendar series under the name T N. Thompson. In the early 1950s, MacPherson had his own television show in Arizona; about 1960, he moved to Tahiti and then traveled widely in the South Pacific. He died in December 1993 at the age of 83”. The artwork is printed on white archival quality acid-free Saxony paper and has overall measurements of approximately 18.0” wide by 24.0” long. The actual color image measures approximately 13.0” wide and 18.0” long. Refer to description photos #19, #20, #21, and #22 to confirm the size dimensions and for more details about what I describe. The lithograph comes safely protected inside an archival safe polyethylene bag as can be seen in description photos #8 and #9. The art imagery depicting the beautiful young lady remains in excellent condition and all the vivid colors remain vibrant and clear as can be confirmed in the description photos. This print has never been framed and remains in its original state. The colorful pinup image is surrounded within a single gray colored border line that subsequently provides for an approximately 1-7/8” wide outside plain-white border around the entire piece to accommodate properly matting the artwork before framing. Refer to all the description photos to confirm what I have described. Overall the lithograph print remains in very good condition with excellent colorful graphics. Aside from a few scattered and extremely light minor surface blemishes from age and handling the lithograph remains to be a very attractive piece of alluring artwork that will certainly catch the adoring eyes of those who appreciate and collect iconic vintage pinup art. There are no tears or deep creases as this artwork has obviously been well taken care over the past 32 years. The archival acid-free Saxony white paper is clean and the artist’s imagery is sharp. The aforementioned notwithstanding, as a matter of full disclosure, there is an approximately .25” long wrinkle along the outer lower LEFT edge of the print that can be confirmed in description photos # 10, #14, #15 and #16. The noted “wrinkle” is located below the “PUBLISHED BY STARBUR GRAPHICS”; specifically the three letters “ICS” in the word “GRAPHICS”. The noted “wrinkle” is not of any serious concern as it is located along the outside edge and will ultimately be covered and/or hidden when the print is matted for framing. As can be verified in the description photos, the lithograph is clearly entitled “TEXAN COWGIRL by Earl Mac Pherson” as seen printed in black along the bottom center of the image. Refer to description photos #1, #9, #11 and #22. The print also bears two signatures of the artist; the first signature being located in the lower right corner of the actual artwork and is part of the lithograph printing itself. This noted signature is not “live” as it was printed at the time the lithograph was produced. The second signature of the famed artist is in fact a “live” signature done in lead pencil by the artist himself. This pencil signature is located on the left side below the colored print immediately to the left of the aforementioned title. In addition the artist also handwrote, on the right side beneath the color print, the numbers “140/395” thereby certifying the signed lithograph print was a limited edition piece of art and was the 140th print out of only 395 total authorized pieces produced. Refer to description photos #1, #9, #11, #12, #13, #14 and #15 to confirm what I described and for more details. The certificate of authenticity was issued by the STABUR CORPORATION and certifies the limited edition signed lithograph is an original piece. The certificate reads as follows below. Refer to description photo #18 for more details about what I have described. “CERTIFICATE” “OF” “AUTHENTICITY” “Texas Cowgirl” lithograph has been printed on archival quality acid-free Saxony paper. Trimmed to an overall size of 18” x 24”. “The edition is signed by Earl Mac Pherson and limited to 395.” “This is number 140 of an edition size of 395.” “Published by” “Stabur Corporation” “11904 Farmington Road” “Livonia, MI 48150” “313-425-7930” The back of the lithograph print remains in very good clean condition with no staining or discoloration to the white paper as can be easily confirmed in description photo #17. Please look at the description photos closely as they confirm the current condition and accurately depict the exact lithograph artwork you will receive if you purchase this piece. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the lithograph, please email me and I will respond ASAP. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE NOTE; this lithograph artwork will ship from Texas zip code 77362 via USPS Priority Mail.
