Description: General George Smith Patton Jr. [1885 1945] was a senior officer of the United States Army who commanded the U.S Seventh Army in the Mediterranean and European theaters of World War II but is best known for his leadership of the U.S. Third and Seventh Armies in France and Germany following the Allied invasion of Normandy in June of 1944. Patton began his military career in 1909 and served in the Mexican Revolution Campaign. During World War I he was assigned to establish the AEF Light Tank School and led his unit the newly formed 304th Tank Brigade into battle at the Meuse-Argonne Offensive and was wounded in battle. During World War II Patton was considered to be the best and most aggressive Army commander in the European theater of war. On December 8, 1945, Patton's vehicle collided with a American army truck and while his injuries where at first considered minor, Patton died on December 21, 1945. At his request he was buried with his fellow soldiers at the American Cemetery in Luxembourg. Listed for auction is a stunning display which contains an authenticated [TLS] war dated letter signed by General George Smith Patton. The letter is typed upon the letterhead of Headquarters Third Army United States Army and dated 8 August 1945. The letter is a thank you response and is signed ''G.S. Patton Jr.'' in black fountain pen above his typed name and rank. The signature is bold, easily read and displays wonderfully. Patton November 11, 1885 - December 21, 1945. General of The United States Army. ''A good plan violently executed right now is far better than a perfect plan executed next week''. Mounted on each side of the plaque is a pair of general's gold stars along with a pair of gold U.S. emblems. Also mounted within the display is a United States Third Army military patch which coincides with the Third Army letterhead. The display itself is stunning and has been professionally assembled and triple matted in all acid free materials as follows.
