Description: Rare John Wayne Cast and Crew mug from his movie “ Blood Alley “ - 1955 ABOUT: John Wayne had custom mugs made for all cast and crew and gifted them with the specially designed mug at the wrap of each movie he was in. This particular mug has been inscribed on the back to “Chester” - Chester Smith’s son passed way last year without any children to pass it along to, we’re looking for someone who is a John Wayne fan to carry on the tradition of this mug and pass it along from generation to generation. According to John Wayne Mugs website, “Many of Duke’s fans are not aware of his fondness for custom made coffee mugs. Beginning with Flying Leathernecks 1951 and through The Shootist 1976, John Wayne had custom mugs made which he gave to the cast and crew of each movie. These beautiful heavy mugs featured an image on the front commemorating the movie and was personalized on the back to its recipient from Duke. The earliest mugs were actually hand painted by Bob Williams an artist renown for the designs he created. While each movie’s mug is unique, just about all of them feature a distinguishing genuine gold painted handle. For those fortunate enough to be given one, as you can imagine, they are treasured as the works of art they are and especially because they came from Duke. They have become extremely valuable to collectors as there were so few made and they mean so much to those they were given to.” From the same website is this info on this particular edition: “Blood Alley is the ninth mug Bob Williams made for John Wayne. The Blood Alley mug was produced on the heavy beige Wallace mug. It has the Bob Williams 222 Occidental stamp. Bob Williams was such a talented artist. Please Note how he created his own Asian/English font for the recipients names. This was another example of his creative eye for detail, very cool.” From my research, Gold handle is 95%. Please verify for your own benefit. BRAND: Wallace China MADE BY: Bob Williams, hand painted in Los Angeles. MEASUREMENTS: 4 5/8” including handle x 3 1/2” x 3 3/4” tall. Weight is 1 lb 4 oz, it has a very good weight to it especially for a mug. CONDITION: Very nice vintage condition, please see all photos and ask if there’s something in particular you’d like to see in a photo. When viewed with the flash, you’ll see some spots of gold on the handle that are worn, not nearly as noticeable in regular lighting/non-flash photo. Has been in a glass display case for many decades along with a few other pieces of John Wayne memorabilia which I’ll be listing. Lots of photos are included to show it to you in different lighting. Some photos were taken with flash, others in regular indoor lighting. There are a few different backgrounds as well.
