Description: 2 KUBA Beaded Hooded Masks w/Ornate Cowrie Shell Headdress - Carved from African Wood. Gorgeous African Mask from the Kuba people of Congo. Polychrome painted decorated with applied beads running form tip of nose to chin, woven back with applied cowrie shells. "ngaady a mwaash" represents the sister and wife of "woot", the progenitor of the Bushong. It is one of the three most important mask figures of the Bushong, belonged to the royal family and was used for public ceremonies(ex: dance in costume w/mask to display the relationship between the people and Their King) or during initiation rites for young boys.
