Description: BEAUTIFUL GENTLY USED, TRADITIONAL JAPANESE PADDED, LIGHTWEIGHT BUT WARM HANTEN KIMONO JACKET - FULLY REVERSIBLE, RED with FLOWERS ONE SIDE AND BLACK & PALE GREY WITH TRADITIONAL ARROW FLETCH /FEATHER PATTERN ON THE OTHER SIDE This is a stunning, contemporary version of a traditional Japanese padded hanten jacket. Hanten are the Japanese traditional winter jacket. This type of jacket is rare to find in the UK and I have only found similar items ( but in cotton) on one UK website selling for £105. please see https://shop.japanobjects.com/products/red-hanten-jacket Although this item is made for the Japanese market, has a Japanese brand and the labels are in Japanese, the item was manufactured in China. The base fabric is fine, smooth silky polyester. The jacket is fully reversible with 2 pockets on both sides. The collar/lapel and two front ties are made of a fabric that is like cotton but is actually a cotton blend. The jacket is padded with lightweight padding and is soft and nice to touch. One side of the jacket has a red background with traditional type of flowers design which are either peonies or roses in pinks and purples with green leaves and with many small blossoms. The other side is pale grey and black and shows an ancient Japanese pattern called ‘yabane’ which represents arrow feathers/fletches and dates back to the samurai, who were very keen archers. So both patterns are quite typically Japanese in style. The jacket closes casually with two ties at the front only. There is a care label is hidden in one of the side pockets. It says in Japanese that the jacket is predominantly made of polyester, with the collar being a cotton/polyester mix. The label suggests that it can be hand washed at low temperature. The garment is really stunning and gives a unique effect. It is a lovely item to touch and to wear and brings something of traditional Japanese culture into everyday use. This jacket would make an excellent, unique, gorgeous jacket or could be worn instead of a jumper/cardigan. CONDITION : This jacket is fairly contemporary in age. It is very gently used and looks to be in near perfect condition with no particular faults or signs of use to note. SIZE: I cannot be exactly sure of the fit on this jacket. It is a casual, relaxed style jacket. The size on the label is 'M' but this is a Japanese size which often relates more to length than to body size. I think it would fit a range of sizes up to a maximum of UK size 14 but it depends how roomy you want it to be. So please check the measurements given. Cuff to cuff width is 132cm/52", overall length is 82.5cm/32.5", the width across the back (side seam to side seam) is 63.5cm/25”. The front parts are narrower than some other styles of kimono that wrap over. The width all round at the waist, from the front of one side all the way round the back to the front of the otherside is about 47"/119.5.
