This is an outstanding original work done by this well listed New Hampshire/Massachusetts artist and instructor, and one excellent example of his work. This very pleasing 20th Century Impressionist style oil painting features a skier. The painting is on board, and is in the original solid wood frame with gilt liner (the gilt has aged). The rest of the frame is in good condition. The painting is signed “Packer” and is the signature of Richard Gordon Packer. Packer was the owner of a well patronized, seasonal art gallery in the center of the Mt. Washington Valley in North Conway, New Hampshire. Packer received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1938, and taught many students at his studio in Marblehead, Massachusetts. His New England sea and landscapes hang in every state in the union. Packer opened his New Hampshire gallery in 1953 and remained active until his death. Packer traveled extensively, painting in Europe, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Bermuda, Canada, Mexico, and southwestern United States. His most popular subjects are of New England including the White Mountains, Maine and Massachusetts coastal and harbor scenes, New Hampshire village and maple sugaring scenes. Packer is a well listed and highly collected artist. A great number of people find his loose style of impressionist painting, and carefully chosen New England scenes, very pleasing to the eye.
