Description: Offered for your consideration is this high-quality, gorgeous antique portrait miniature watercolor dating from the 1830’s to the 1840’s period. It is housed in its original gold painted wood stepped frame under glass with a brass ring affixed to the top for hanging. It is possible that it may be signed, but I have owned this painting for many years and haven’t removed the painting from the frame. The frame has an interesting paper ad glued to the wood backing. The sitter is beautifully dressed and has posed in a Classical style. She is very pale, with hair parted in the middle with three or four thick spiral curls hanging beside her cheeks down to rest on her shoulders. These curls are in front of her ears , which are exposed. And the rest of her behind her ears is drawn back into a bun at the back of her head. She wears a gossamer white summer gown that is close-fitting with dropped shoulders and long sleeves that taper to the elbow, then flare out into voluminous poufs to the wrist. A delicate lace fiche modestly covers her bodice and she has a multi-colored shawl draped over one arm that extends behind her and rests on her lap underneath her other arm. She is sitting near some drapery on one side and tapestry pillows are depicted behind and next to her, propping her elbow. She has turned her head slightly to one side and holds a slim book in one hand. A lovely subject she was for the watercolor artist who painted her. The visible rectangle window that shows her watercolor image measures 5” tall by 4” wide. I think whoever buys this lovely painting will be very pleased at how beautiful it presents.
