This listing is for a lovely set of four Herend porcelain hand painted mocha or expresso "can" cups and saucers with 24 K gold trim in the "Rothschild Bird" pattern. The white porcelain body is beautifully decorated with colorful "Rothschild Bird" pattern with butterflies. This pattern comes in 12 assorted bird designs and the four shipped with this purchase will be picked at random of our choice. Each of these cups and saucers are in excellent Estate condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Cup measures 2 1/8" high and is 2 1/8" in diameter at the top. Cup holds 2 ounces (not filling all the way to the top). The saucer measures 4 1/8" in diameter. Each cup and saucer set weighs 5.1 ounces for a combined weight of 1.5 pounds. Each piece is marked with the old pre-1930 Herend trademark stamp and "Hungary". This pattern was created in 1860 for the Rothschild family of Europe and is considered by porcelain lovers to be the epitome of hand painting on porcelain. The Herend "Rothschild Bird" pattern has been extremely popular since it was first created in 1860. Created for the famous Rothschild family of Europe, the pattern consists of 12 different motifs portraying a 19th Century tale about Baroness Rothschild. The story goes that she lost her pearl necklace in the garden of her Vienna residence. After several days, the necklace was found by her gardener who saw birds playing with it in a tree.
