Description: THE BIGGEST BEAR ON EARTHby Harold McCrackenIllustrated by Paul Bransom Description Hardcover with dust jacket; 114 pages; Size Approx. 7 3/4 X 10 1/4. Published by J. B. Lippincott Company; 1943, 8th printing. Details: This is a book that "takes the reader, young or old, to the wild tundra country of the Alaska Peninsula to live close to one of the largest and most intelligent creatures in the world - the Alaska Brown Bears. It is based on the author's first-hand study of these bears in the Alaska wilderness.""The story opens as the cub, Little Roughneck, emerges with his mother and little sister from the winter den. It follows his career as he meets the dangers of the home valley, the great tundra and the mighty river mouth in the salmon season. The reader follows each step of Roughneck's development with growing enthusiasm as he becomes truly the biggest bear on earth." ~ from the dust jacketWonderfully illustrated with full-page illustrations and a smaller one used at several chapter headings. The copyright page says it is an 8th printing; the dust jacket flap says 5th printing. I assume the earlier dust jacket was used on some later printings as well. A fine addition for your bookshelf! Condition: Ex-library copy but no card pocket or date slip since this was a "reference book" and was not circulated. There are darkened spots where the dust jacket was taped to the covers, otherwise, with very little wear, it is in very good condition with a solid binding and exceptionally crisp, clean pages. The un-clipped dust jacket has been placed in a new brodart cover and there is no library spine label, very good +. Note: The letter/number at the end of the title line for this listing is just an inventory code for locating the book. Shipping Free Domestic Economy Shipping! Check out my other items!
