An active participant in the battles of the Army of the Potomac, Glazier’s wonderful memoir details the many battles and campaigns he participated in and provides wonderful anecdote of the events, personalities and issues associated with the war. A revealing and invaluable, first-hand account. In 1861 Glazier enlisted in the 2nd New York Cavalry Regiment. He had reached the rank of lieutenant when we was taken prisoner in a cavalry skirmish near Buckland Mills, Virginia, in 1863, and sent to Libby prison. Subsequently transferred to Georgia, Charleston and then Columbia, he finally escaped but was recaptured. He escaped again and reentered the army with the 26th New York Cavalry and served until the end of the Civil War. In 1867 he was granted the rank of Brevet Captain for “meritorious service.” He participated in a large amount of the War in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. After the war he devoted himself to travel and exploration and became a well-known author. In 1876 he went from Boston to San Francisco on horseback, and was captured by hostile Indians near Skull Rocks, Wyoming territory, but escaped. In 1881, he made a canoe voyage of 3,000 miles from the headwaters to the mouth of the Mississippi. He organized and was made a Colonel of a provisional regiment of Illinois infantry during the Spanish-American War and continued to explore new territories. This is a brand new, unread, pristine condition book. Bound in marron covers with bright, impressed, gold lettering on the spine, the book is new and has no shortcomings. The exterior is clean, bright and sharp with no wear or bumping. The pages are clean, bright white and in excellent condition. There isn't a mark in the book.
