The ROYAL QUIET PORTABLE TYPEWRITER WAS MADE FOR LESS THAN ONE YEAR, IN 1938.Here is just a little background to put this typewriter in perspective in its place in the history of Royal portable typewriters.The Royal portable typewriter which immediately preceded this one was the Royal "De Luxe" , made from 1935 to 1938.In 1938 the Royal 'QUIET" was introduced. The Royal "Quiet" is virtually identical to the Royal "De Luxe", EXCEPT that the black textured finish is slightly different, more similar to the next model - the Royal "Quiet De Luxe".The Royal Quiet" was only made for the remainder of 1938, then in 1939 the names "Quiet" and "De Luxe" were combined to make the Royal Quiet De Luxe". The Royal "Quiet De Luxe has a completely different look from the Royal "De Luxe" and the Royal "Quiet' models. One of the most obvious differences is that the Royal "Quiet De Luxe' does not have the two elegant wide chrome bands around the exterior which give the Royal "De Luxe" and the Royal "Quiet" ( this typewriter ) such a distinctive appearance The Royal "Quiet De Luxe" was manufactured for many years, from 1938 all the way up until 1959, with various design changes along the way.So, the reason this ROYAL'QUIET" Portable typewriter is listed as semi- rare is its very limited production, falling between the Royal "De Luxe" and the Royal Quiet De Luxe", and lasting less than a year in 1938.
