The Luger was produced in several models and by several nations from 1898 to 1949. The design was first patented by George Luger. It was meant to be an improvement of the Borchardt C-93 pistol, and was initially produced as the Parabellum Automatic Pistol, Borchardt-Luger System by the German arms manufacturer Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken. The first production model was known as the 1900 Parabellum. It was followed by the "Marine Pistole 1904" for the Imperial German Navy. The Luger was officially adopted by the Imperial German Navy in 1906 and the German Army in 1908. The Luger was the standard service pistol of Switzerland, Portugal, the Netherlands, Brazil, Bolivia, and Bulgaria. It was widely used in other countries as a military service pistol and by police forces. In the German Army service, it was adopted in a slightly modified form as the Pistole Model 1908 (Pistole 08) in caliber 9×19mm Parabellum. The Model 08 was eventually succeeded by the Walther P38. However, the Luger was well known for its wide use by German soldiers during World War I and World War II, along with the interwar Weimar Republic and the postwar East German Volkspolizei. During the war the German Luger became a prized pistol that American soldiers wanted for keep sakes, and sadly, some even gave their lives trying to get them as German soldiers knew this and would hide concealed explosive that would seriously injure or kill anyone who tried to retrieve the pistol. Even today the PO8 Luger is still considered a valuable keep's sake among many gun owners and collectors, especially since the last one was manufactured in 1945 and can now only be obtained from another owner willing to part with such a prized pistol that is so rich in its history. The WE-Tech PO8 GBB airsoft pistol is a gas operated version of the gun that is capable of firing 6mm plastic BB's as well as the 6mm aluminum BB's that are loaded into a very realistic looking magazine which also holds the gas that operates the gun. The WE-Tech PO8 GBB airsoft pistol has a strong blowback action mimicking the real PO8 and can obtain velocities levels of 300~330 FPS using green gas and 0.20g plastic BBs. Please Note: The 6mm aluminum BB's were not tested and are strongly recommended for target practice only as they can seriously hurt or injure someone if they were to be hit with one of these BB's. With this WE-Tech PO8 GBB airsoft pistol, you'll find that it has a silver almost chrome like finish which is more durable than the all black version of this pistol. The silver version also looks great for show purposes. The pistol comes with both the black polymer diamond checkered grips as well as the real wood American Walnut "War Bird" grips from Altamont Grip makers. Please Note: The wood grips are fragile and recommended for no other use than show and display purposes only. The WE-Tech PO8 has a strong felt blow-back action which operates in the same way that the real PO8 functions. The gun is also capable of being field stripped exactly like the real PO8 which in turn makes this replica as real as it gets to an actual PO8 Luger without the cost of buying a real PO8 Luger. The "War Bird" grip on the left grip panel had to have a small bracket placed on the inner portion of the grip and both grips also had to be tooled out on the inside of the grips to make them fit properly. This is due to the fact that this gun is not an exact dimensional copy of the real PO8, and the "War Bird" grips are real PO8 grips. Please use the plastic grips that are supplied when doing any shooting of this gun to avoid any damage to the wood grips. Since this is an airsoft gun, it is sold with an orange tip according to Federal and/or State Regulations so that it is not mistaken for a real firearm by local law enforcement. It is unlawful to remove or alter the coloration of the orange tip to make the product look more realistic.
